THE RABBIT
![]() |
All decent women covered their hair at all times when in public. The only exceptions are young girls, brides, the queen on state occasions and ladies of ill repute. The rabbit is a short hood made from linen with tails at the back which are crossed over, brought to the front and tied. If the woman could afford it, she would show off her wealth and status by having a rabbit and apron made from gleaming, white, bleached linen. The sleeves which are removable have been buttoned onto the shoulder of the kirtle. Prostitutes were not allowed to have white linen aprons.
